Northern Ethiopia’s Simien Mountains are a magnificent mountain range. The National Park is UNESCO-listed and home to a variety of indigenous flora and animals, including Gelada monkeys, who dwell in big groups of up to 200 individuals and may often be seen up close; the Walia ibex, a giant mountain goat; and the rare Ethiopian wolf, a critically endangered species.

     The Simiens provide excellent trekking opportunities for both novice and expert hikers. You can hike in the highlands for a day and take in the landscape and fauna, or you can travel for ten days and summit Ethiopia’s highest peak, Ras Dejen, at 4542 meters. Views extending far over the lowlands are made possible by a gigantic steep escarpment that connects the highlands to the lowlands.

     The majority of hikers choose to set up tent; the park has multiple official campsites as well as a few modest community lodges and an opulent lodge for those who would rather be pampered. I can set up all-inclusive trekking packages for you, allowing you to simply enjoy the hike.
